Great 8: Taija Kerr and Her Hair and Skincare Must-Haves
Afro-Hawaiian model Taija Kerr recently made the move from Texas to New York to pursue her modeling dreams and has taken the city by storm. She became the first Afro-Hawaiian to star in a Sephora beauty campaign and we’ve also spotted Kerr in ads for CoverGirl and Rimmel. So how does she maintain that signature curly mane and glowing skin? Here’s the lowdown on her absolute favorite products to use.
1. African Black Soap
This helps remove any dark spots and impurities from your skin, and makes it feels very hydrated after you use it. I also use African Black Soap to shampoo my hair.
2. Grapeseed Oil
This is my all-time favorite moisturizer because it’s not heavy and doesn’t clog your pores. It’s a big topic right now on the Internet that I look like a baby in the latest Rimmel ad [laughs]. People are like “why are you using a child for a makeup ad?” I just want to say that if you use grapeseed oil it will tighten up your skin. It’s my top-secret moisturizer that helps with anti-aging and fighting acne.
3. Tea Tree Oil
I used to break out a lot and have dark spots because of it. I moved from Texas to New York and the pollution in the air freaked my skin out. Tea tree oil takes out any impurities from my skin. The combination of African Black Soap, grapeseed oil and tea tree oil was this small regimen I started to use and it really worked. I only use tea tree oil on my cheeks because it’s pretty abrasive.
4. Aunt Jackie’s Curl La La – Defining Curl Custard
This is a hair care product I use all the time. It has jojoba oil in it and since my hair is lion-ish it gives me curls but also lets me pick my hair out and make it more afro-style.
5. Tony Moly LIPTONE™ Get It Tint Mini Trio
This is a cheek stain I like to use on my lips, cheeks and bridge of my nose. I put grapeseed oil to on top for a little extra glow.
6. Bite Agave Lip Mask in Smashed
This one that has a red tone to it and is a favorite of mine. It helps my lips not be chapped and hydrates them.
7. Water Pik and Electric Toothbrush
This has toothbrush and Water Pik and you can charge both on the same device. I use the Water Pik to floss and then brush after. This cleans my teeth without being abrasive — I’ve been super into taking care of my teeth lately.
I keep an amethyst with me, it helps me manage my vibrations day to day.
