Rana Good is the founder of Naïra NYC. A writer for publications such as Forbes, Travel + Leisure, Coveteur, Mens Journal and others, she created her own platform celebrating women of color.
Sabrina Nooruddin Molu a.k.a. Simply Sabrina started her career in blogging almost a decade ago to add some diversity to a homogenous landscape. “I never saw someone that looked like me both in terms of body type and ethnicity,” says Molu. “It was important for me as a consumer to add a voice to that space.”
Throughout the years she’s grown on multiple platforms and covers eight verticals on her site, writing about everything from living to friendships to self-care to style. However, we first discovered Molu on TikTok where she mostly covers beauty and fell in love with product reviews and beauty tips. Which, of course, makes her the perfect candidate for our Great 8 series in which beauty aficionados share their eight favorite products.
1. IT Cosmetics Je Ne Sais Quoi Hydrating Lip Balm Treatment
This lip balm lasts forever! I’m on my third one within the span of three years. I use it every day especially if I’m wearing a mask because I want my lips to be hydrated. I now use it even more than normally with everything that’s going on.
2. Tarte Shape Tape Concealer
This one is a go-to for me. People complain that’s its drying on your under eyes or wherever you apply it, but I don’t have that issue. I usually apply a heavy moisturizer before makeup so it’s a great fit for me. Nothing matches the coverage you get and now with the expanded shade range, it’s even more inclusive.
3. Eva NYC Mane Magic 10-in-1 Primer
This one’s a new product for me. It has a myriad of benefits – it detangles and primes your hair, plus adds heat protectant and shine. Usually, when products are all-in-one, they’re good at one thing and fall short in other categories. This one really lives up to its name and is going to be a staple for me. It’s a spray to use when your hair is still wet.
4. Noorface Skinglass
I became great friends with the woman who did the makeup for my engagement party, Noor. She launched her own beauty brand and her flagship product is called Skinglass, it gives skin a beautiful, pearlized finished. It’s a hydrating skin oil that makes your skin look super healthy in the summer. That’s when I don’t want to wear too much makeup, I just want to look like I have good skin.
5. 8 Second Wonder Water Lamellar Hair Treatment
This is an in-shower product that can go after conditioner or replace your conditioner. You’re only supposed to apply this product for eight seconds which is crazy – as soon as you apply it you’re already almost down with your countdown. It has a warming sensation so you can feel your scalp heat up slightly, then you rinse it out. My hair felt immediately softer and looked shinier. I have long hair and they have little markers on the bottle where it shows you the recommended use. I’ve been going through it fast because I really like it!
6. Cover FX Pressed Mineral Foundation
I still love a mineral foundation and I’ve been wearing this one for years. In the summer I don’t want to wear anything heavy or liquid, and this one has a light to medium coverage. You use a brush to press it into your skin. CoverFX was pre-Fenty with its wide shade range and been really inclusive as a brand, which is why I’m such a big fan.
7. Weightless Liquid Mineral Sunscreen With Zinc Oxide SPF 30
I think this list needs sunscreen! Everyone talked about Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen but my favorite is the mineral sunscreen from First Aid Beauty. I’ve never put on a sunscreen that’s mineral but feels matte like this one. It’s tinted so it goes on seamlessly and leaves no white cast. I even forget it was on which is hard to say with other sunscreens.
8. Paula’s Choice 2% Bha Liquid Exfoliant
Another cult favorite. I used to get random breakouts — my skin seemed really unhappy but I didn’t know why. When I heard about this product which is a chemical exfoliant but gentle enough to use every day, I was intrigued. Within a week my skin looked a lot better and I had fewer blemishes, less redness and I understood the hype. I got the travel size first but will repurchase a bigger bottle very soon.
