The first thing you’ll notice about beauty and fashion influencer Kaye Bassey is her unmistakable glow — her complexion and hair are glistening. Luckily she’s happy to share her scintillating beauty secrets — a product expert, she’s equally likely to speak about drugstore and prestige items. A quick scroll through her Instagram feed and you’ll know which face oil, lip balm, and setting spray you need to stock up on. We asked the L.A.-based beauty (who’s also lived in Nigeria, Canada, Czech Republic, and Germany) about her eight absolute favorite products, here’s what she had to say.
1. Curology
Number one on my list is Curology! To be honest, I was skeptical before trying it out. It is a customized three-step skincare system that should help improve your skin. After using Curology for the first couple of weeks, I was blown away by the results. My skin was my skin but better, clearer — I feel like Curology filled in the gaps in my skincare routine that I was missing. To be honest, this is one of my favorites, most low maintenance steps to my skincare that I currently cannot live without.
2. The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution
Ever since I was a pre-teen, I have been obsessed with masks! I love the zen and relaxation that comes along with lathering my face with nutritious goodness and then feeling the instant results after. Over time, I have upgraded my mask indulgences. The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution is a mask that provides me with instant results through chemical exfoliation. In the past, I was accustomed to using physical exfoliants containing grains or micro-beads because it felt like I could feel the instant results. Using a chemical exfoliant has been a game-changer for me and it actually leaves my skin more supple and clearer for a long period of time, compared to physical exfoliants.
3. Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask
This has been a love of mine for literally years and has gained a lot of popularity over time. I remember when I first purchased it, I would rave about this lip balm to all my friends who were non-believers at the time — it’s nice to see that all my love for this was not misplaced. The lip mask is to be used before going to bed but to be honest, I love it so much that I use it morning, noon, and night and every other chance I get to use it throughout the day! A good lip balm has always been an obsession for me. I have so many different ones but this one just does something extra for the moisture of my lips. The packaging is insanely cute, and the quantity of the product is unmatched compared to most other lip balms. This product has been all the rage and I understand why!
4. Guerlain Abielle Royale Youth Watery Oil
When I first got into this product at the beginning of quarantine, I was amazed by the results I was seeing — so much hydration and glow! I really wanted my skin to soak in all the goodness the product had to offer so after a morning cleanse, this is what I would wear all day without any makeup- very convenient since I was in masks all day. After, some weeks of wearing it, this has become a definite staple in my skincare. It leaves my skin so plump and gets rid of the pesky dry areas of my skin during the winter months.
5. Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation
The name says it all and yes, it lives up to its name. This is arguably my favorite foundation. I have some other honorable mentions, Fenty Beauty and Laura Mercier make amazing foundations too. One thing I love about this product is that the finish is so silky, glowy and is the answer to my need to have really dewy skin. My skin loves foundations with really yellow undertones and the shade 8.5 does that for me. If you are in the same boat as me (needing foundations with yellow undertones), this one does not disappoint.
6. Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder in Medium Deep
This brand has been near and dear to me for the longest time. It was one of the first beauty lines that I got really into – when I was younger, I would save up and treat myself to some. My first favorite foundation (which has since been discontinued) was by Laura Mercier! Since then, my love for the product line has continued. The translucent powder is smooth, perfectly pigmented, and almost feels like it is melting into my skin. I feel like this product is also very forgiving. For example, if I am in a time crunch and barely manage to apply my foundation and concealer perfectly, swiping this powder over everything makes my application look flawless giving me the appearance that I spent hours to apply everything. A lifehack for me!
7. Benefit They’re Real Mascara
Also, another cult favorite for me! My eyes can get sensitive, so I love that this mascara does not irritate my eyes. After using my favorite Kevyn Aucoin eyelash curler in the mornings, this mascara takes my lashes to new heights and lengths. It’s funny, but I do frequently get the question, “are your lashes real?” I love it because I get to make a cheesy joke about how “they’re real!” There are other mascaras that I love but none of them hit home the way this one does for me. If I am in a rush, this is the first mascara one-step mascara that I reach for to guarantee a full and fluffy lash look.
8. Urban Decay All Nighter Ultra Glow Setting Spray
The final step to my makeup routine and it does not disappoint one bit. I love that the spritz is light and does not make my makeup run. There are some other setting sprays that I have used that literally leave my skin so damp that my makeup begins to run. Granted, at times I can be heavy-handed with my setting sprays… luckily this one provides a light mist, so if I get a little carried away my makeup stills stays put. Another pro is that it delivers exactly what it promises- a long-lasting ultra-glow finish. Obsessed with this and love it so much.
