Summer is almost over, and that means colder weather and less sunshine. While the seasons may change, glowy, sunkissed skin is always in style and is something we try to maintain even when it gets chillier. To prolong our summer babe statuses we asked five makeup artists their tips on how to maintain our “just came back from vacation” aesthetic. Here are the skincare and makeup products they recommend:
1. Linh Tran (pictures above)
What are some makeup products that play up sunkissed skin?
Linh Tran: I love summer and how the sun adds this beautiful and natural flush to skin. Summer is a great time to wear less makeup and bring attention to that sunkissed skin with bronzers, highlights, shimmery blushes, and don’t forget that SPF!
Some of my favorites are:
Chanel’s Soleil Tan de Chanel: This creamy bronzer is so easy to blend and flattering on everyone.
The Balm’s Mary-Lou Manizer: I use this year-round, on myself and clients. You can pack it on for that oomph, or lightly apply for a gorgeous highlight.
Nars Orgasm Blush: An oldie but a goodie! It’s the perfect blend of peaches and gold to enhance that golden sun-kissed look.
Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protector Lotion SPF 50+: Sunscreen is an absolute must year-round to help to prevent signs of aging and overall skin health, but I also love how lightweight this sunscreen is.
What colors do you think are perfect to use at the end of summer?
Warm bronzes, reds, and oranges really work to compliment that sun-kissed skin. They also play really well into transitioning into the fall. My go-to look is bronzed eyes and skin, finished with a warm lip.
I think everyone needs a good red lip that is perfect for any occasion or season. I love the Fenty Stunna Lip Paint in Uncensored. It’s a great universal red and it lasts all night! Another great lip is Mac’s So Chaud lipstick. It’s an orange-red that is great for transitioning into the fall. When it comes to eyes, the Dose of Colors Friendcation Palette is favorite. It’s full of matte neutrals and stand-out shimmer shades for an easy and bronzed look year-round.
What’s a good way to maintain summery skin in terms of skincare into the fall?
During the fall our skin tends to get a bit dull and dry compared to that lively summer skin, so exfoliating is a must. It helps to remove dead skin in order to maintain that glowy and fresh skin look into fall and winter. After exfoliating, you need a good moisturizer to hydrate the skin and enhance that natural glow. I have really dry skin so I love using Shiseido Bio-Performance Advanced Super Revitalizing Cream to keep my skin super hydrated and don’t forget eye cream. Age tends to show around our eyes and the dry months only make it worse. I use Shiseido’s Future Solution LX Eye and Lip Contour Regenerating Cream to keep my eyes and lips hydrated and plump.
2. Amrita Mehta
What colors do you think are perfect to use at the end of summer?
I think any warm-toned products transition really well into fall. Golds, reds, and oranges are perfect for either season and will really complement sunkissed skin. I love a sweep of Huda beauty’s Topaz or Ruby palettes across the eyes, and Bobbi Brown bronze glow highlighter across the skin. Don’t forget to apply it daily to avoid unwanted pigmentation, discoloration, and premature aging.
What’s a good way to maintain summery skin in terms of skincare into the fall?
Stay hydrated and moisturized! As air tends to dry out in the fall, your skin does too. Face lotion, eye creams, and lip balms are vital to keeping that fresh and radiant skin you had all summer. I love Weleda Skin Food. It’s a bit heavy, but a small dab of it across my cheeks really helps maintain that dewy, glowy summer skin. At night, I love to pile in on and give my skin a chance to absorb it. Pixi Beauty Milky Mist is another favorite.
It’s a great hydrating spray for both before makeup and before bed. The hyaluronic acid in it really helps to trap moisture and plump your skin. Though you may be seeing a lot less sun, sunscreen is just as important. Don’t forget to apply it daily to avoid unwanted pigmentation, discoloration, and premature aging. Supergoop is my personal fave. Their glow screen keeps me protected and radiant. For makeup bases in the fall, I tend to gravitate to lighter products like BB and CC creams that have a mix of makeup and skincare. CLE Cosmetics CC cream gives me great coverage without looking heavy or cakey. The best part, I can apply it with my fingers. It is the perfect product to help keep your skin summer fresh but still concealed.
3. Vanessa Vega
What are some makeup products that play up sunkissed skin?
Vanessa Vega: Some products that I think play up a really nice sun-kissed skin, would come from all of your cheek products. So a nice bronzer, blush, and gold-toned highlight together create a really nice bronzed look. I think those three products play very well together, with the right balance of each product, to give you that very beachy, glowy, I just got a tan look. And for added texture, some subtle faux freckles are always a very cute technique to spice up any look.
What colors do you think are perfect to use at the end of summer?
Colors that I think are perfect to use at the end of summer are nudes, orange-yellow, green, and red tones. It’s always kinda tricky when transitioning from summer to fall because fall colors are much darker, and summer is very natural dewy bronze makeup. But with the right balance of your shades, you can still achieve a very warm caramel glam that works well with both seasons. Using colors like nude, orange and browns are personally my favorite so palettes like Soft Glam or Subculture from Anastasia Beverly Hills have such beautiful colors for both summer and fall.
What’s a good way to maintain summery skin in terms of skincare into the fall?
A great way to maintain summer skin into the fall I think is all in the base. So using products that help benefit your skin in the transition from summer to fall so anything that helps with hydration, oils, exfoliating, a good cleanser to give your skin that reset it needs to jump into fall and still feel clean and fresh.
4. Dalia Flores
What are some makeup products that play up sunkissed skin?
Dalia Flores: Some of my favorites products that would give that effect of sunkissed skin during all the seasons would be Soleil Tan Bronzer by Chanel since it gives that perfect effect of tan and also adds glow to the skin to make it look hydrated and the best part is that works for all skin types.
What colors do you think are perfect to use at the end of summer?
We need to use colors that summer and fall have in common. Colors in the orange range are a must or a base to use during the end of summer, but if you want to be creative also add electric blue, greens, hot pink, and brown. These colors will help to still make you look on-trend but at the same time transitioning into fall. Brands that I would love to recommend because they have good pigmentation are Mehron, Anastasia Norvina Edition, and Natasha Denona mini palettes.
What’s a good way to maintain summery skin in terms of skincare into the fall?
My summer sunkissed skin essentials are a good SPF, a medium to buildable foundation, powder/liquid highlighter, bronzer, and shimmering body oils. I’m all for a summer glow all year round so I mix a small drop of my Patina liquid highlight from Anastasia Beverly Hills with my Fenty Beauty Foundation.
What are some makeup products that play up sunkissed skin?
Tiffany Bonds: Bronzer and Blush are what really tie the look together and adds that sun-kissed look. Some of my favorites are the Fenty Beauty Sun Stalker and the Mineralize Skin Finish Powders from MAC Cosmetics.
Also, I recommend using a warm-toned blush to finish the look I like Love Joy or Coppertone from MAC Cosmetics because these shades can work for light to dark skin tones and for deeper tones Blunt from MAC Cosmetics would be a great warm tone blush. For my eyes, I’ve been using The Chocolates Palette from Juvias Place and highlight with Gold Digger from Tequila Cosmetics.
What colors do you think are perfect to use at the end of summer?
I draw a lot of my inspiration for looks from nature and the colors that start to show in during the change of seasons. After summer I feel like the colors turn more towards the warm color spectrum, so at the end of summer I start to incorporate shades like gold, bronze, copper, orange, and browns in a lot of my looks.
Pro Tip: A good way to choose complimentary shades for your skin is to get to know your undertones. Cool undertones include pink, red, or blueish and warm includes golden, yellow, or peachy undertones. You’re neutral if you’re a mixture warm and cool. Also learning a color wheel helps you choose the intensity you need to balance your looks.
What’s a good way to maintain summery skin in terms of skincare into the fall?
Stay properly hydrated, take vitamins, and add skin foods to your diet. Always wear sunscreen it’s the holy grail for anti-aging. It fights against sun damage and helps you keep an even skin tone especially during summer months or anytime you will be out more than 15 minutes. Some of the best SPF brands I’ve used are Dermalogica, Supergoop, or Neutrogena and I use at least a 50+. Pay attention to ingredients in your skincare. Products that have a lot of alcohol and fragrance aren’t good for the face and can cause skin reactions or irritation. If you’re unsure of what to look for or your skin type partner with a skincare professional.
Also, take off makeup when you’re done wearing it and keep a consistent skincare routine for day and night. For the day I use the complete Balance It All Oil Control Cleanser, Tone, Moisturize set from Ole Henriksen with added SPF from Neutrogena during the day.
Finally, if you really want the best results really focus on your nighttime routine because it is when your body repairs and gets rid of toxins from the day. I use Origins A Perfect World Antioxidant Cleanser, Origins Skin Essence Toner, and Glam Glow Star Potion Serum before I moisturize. I also exfoliate and mask twice a week to make sure I’m removing dead skin and getting the maximum skincare benefits.
