Rana Good is the founder of Naïra NYC. A writer for publications such as Forbes, Travel + Leisure, Coveteur, Mens Journal and others, she created her own platform celebrating women of color.
Browsing the Internet, you can find beauty and lifestyle influencer Micaela Verrelien gracing websites like Vogue, Refinery29 and NYMag. A natural in front of the camera, you wouldn’t know that just a few months ago this Haitian-born beauty wasn’t a full-time model but a full-time accountant. After juggling a 9 to 5 and her own growing digital brand simultaneously for years, she recently decided to become a fulltime influencer, setting her sights on the silver screen in the near future. “I decided to become a full-time influencer but that’s not really my end goal, I want to produce and act,” says Verrelien.
Every day she’s enjoying the freedom to set her own schedule and work with a variety of companies such as The Metropolitan Museum, Urban Outfitters and Savage X Fenty. “I was used to every day being the same,” she says. “I sat in the same desk every day, every week, actually. Now I’m working with a different brand every day, trying out new products, going to new places, and experiencing different events.”
We caught up with the Brooklyn-based content creator to discuss her beauty routine and find out which products she swears by. Here’s what she uses to keep her complexion and hair looking flawless.
1. Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie
I’ve used this since the beginning of my natural hair journey. It makes your hair really soft and not frizzy.
2. Tropic Isle Castor Oil
This product helps your hair grow. You can put it on at night and it keeps it moisturized.
3. Dove Go Fresh Deodorant
I love this spray-on dove deodorant because it doesn’t leave any whiteness. No one wants white streaks!
4. Carol’s Daughter Pracaxi Curl Twisting Custard
If you want a really great curl twist out, this is the product for you. It’s really moisturizing, and it makes my hair really shiny. Some products will give you definition without shine, but this one does both.
5. Fleshcolor Eye Shadow Palette
Flesh is awesome, they make you look like you’re not wearing too much makeup. You could wear this to your boyfriend’s work holiday party for example, because it’s understated but still looks amazing. For me it’s a mixture of Fenty Beauty meets Glossier.
6. Fenty Moroccan Spice Palette
Fenty is very spicy — it’s sexy. You can wear this palette when you go out to the club. If you want to be bad, this is what you want to wear.
7 and 8. Devacurl Shampoo and Conditioner
These two are my favorite shampoo and conditioner. Even with just the conditioner you get definition in your hair and both are super moisturizing.
