Rana Good is the founder of Naïra NYC. A writer for publications such as Forbes, Travel + Leisure, Coveteur, Mens Journal and others, she created her own platform celebrating women of color.
Mirian Njoh is a model, digital storyteller, and creative director who’s worked with everyone from Rihanna to Nike to Uniqlo to make aesthetic dreams come true. The Toronto native (with Liberian and Nigerian roots) always likes to keep things creative whether she’s styling her own shoots or helping brands tell their stories in the most captivating way possible. In her photography (check out her Instagram here) Njoh frequently juxtaposes her porcelain skin (she has albinism) with bright colors, and is a living testament that fair skin doesn’t need to hide behind a muted palette.
That’s why I, of course, had to find out how she keeps her skin so perfect (the woman has zero blemishes) and also how she creates her various statement looks. Here are Mirian Njoh’s eight all-time favorite products.
1. Wet n Wild Beauty Mega Jelly Highlighter
Get ready to glow! I use it almost every time I reach for a highlighter. It’s the perfect champagne color in a gel-to-powder finish. A little goes a long way, it’s rich. The payoff is strong. The texture makes it great for mixing with a foundation or moisturizer or wearing it on its own. My jar is almost empty and I have no complaints. We stan a glow queen.
2. OGX Extra Strength Damage Remedy + Coconut Miracle Oil Hair Mask
As a recovering hair product junkie, I try to limit how many hair products I keep around and actively use on my hair, but deep conditioner is my soft spot. My hair loves to bathe in moisture and I deep condition pretty religiously. My hair doesn’t respond well to using coconut oil directly but I like to get the nourishing properties it has so this conditioner is a great way to get all the benefits in a different way. I love how thick the product is and how it coats the hair. My hair is super soft after using it and has a hint of coconut aroma.
3. Dior Hypnotic Poison
This stuff is the truth! This is my all-time favorite fragrance and when I put it on a feel like a grown woman *cues Beyoncé*. I know everyone’s body chemistry is different so it’s going to smell different on each person but for me, it’s my perfume soulmate. What does it smell like? It smells like sexy.
4. Fenty Beauty Stunna Lip Paint in Unattached
Rihanna can pretty much do no wrong in my book. There are so many Fenty Beauty products that I love but the Stunna Lip Paint really stands out to me as a must-have. It goes on velvety-smooth but dries matte. It stays put and the color is perfect, bold yet not overpowering. If I want something bright like a red but not as intense, this coral shade is the perfect compromise. Sometimes I top it with a clear gloss and give it shine.
5. Juvia’s Place The Warrior Eyeshadow Palette
This brand makes some of the best eyeshadow palettes I’ve seen! The pigments, the texture! It was worth every penny. They’re a beauty blogger favorite and very deserving of the accolades. I’m never disappointed when I use this palette. Lastly, the packaging is so beautiful and I love being able to support a black woman entrepreneur with a great business.
6. Peter Thomas Roth Instant Mineral SPF 45
My go-to face sunscreen! It kills me that it’s not available in Canada where I live and I love it so much that anytime I’m in or have a connection through the U.S. I’m sure to pick one up. It’s the only product I’ve seen like it. It’s everything I need it to be and nothing I don’t want. Translucent, portable, non-greasy mineral sunscreen that layers well under other products or even over makeup when you want to top up your SPF but not ruin your face. As a woman with albinism, sun protection during the summer is key and this product has had my back way better than any other facial sunscreen. I am thankful!
7. Thayer’s Natural Remedies Witch Hazel Toner, Lavender
I don’t have naturally clear skin, quite the contrary. That means I have to work for the smooth, clear skin I have and that has always meant a strong, consistent regimen. This product is at the core of my regimen and I’ve been using it for years after I cleanse. I’m particular about what I put on my skin and I love how gentle yet effective this product is. It doesn’t irritate my skin, leaves it feeling calm and balanced. It’s a dream toner.
8. Pure Yellow Shea Butter
The brand doesn’t matter, all that matters is that it’s 100 percent pure yellow shea butter. Slather your life in shea butter and things will start looking up! I use it all over: body, hair, nails, etc. Some people don’t like the light nutty smell it has (if you’re in that crowd you can get the white kind) but just know that it goes through an extra filtration step to extract the color and scent, and I prefer it as natural as possible.
